Welcome to Pittsfield Fire Department

The Pittsfield Fire & Rescue Department is a volunteer Fire Department. Our membership consists of 29 Volunteer firefighters. We have 25 members that are Illinois Certified Firefighter II and 4 probationary firefighters currently enrolled in our training program. The department has 2 Illinois certified firefighter instructors. Additionally we have 25 members trained in hazardous materials awareness and 3 firefighters certified in Hazardous Materials Operations. The Department is an active member of the Illinois Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS Division 67) which can be deployed nationwide for Homeland Security and National Disasters.

Pittsfield is located 65 miles west of Springfield, the state capital, and 95 miles north of St. Louis, Mo. The city is situated 13 miles from the Illinois River and 18 miles from the Mississippi River. The PFD covers a rural agricultural community with one fire station located within the city of Pittsfield, Illinois. The PFD serves the City of Pittsfield (population 4600) and contracts to protect the surrounding Pittsfield Fire Protection District, with a primary area of approximately 160 square miles (additional population 2700). This includes the villages of New Salem, Summer Hill, New Hartford, Time, Martinsburg and Detroit. We have mutual aide agreements for the remainder of Pike County Illinois, which includes nine Fire Departments/Fire Protection Districts, and two mutual aide agreements in Missouri with the City of Louisiana and Buffalo Township Fire Protection District, located less than 19 miles from our station.
